SWISH Youth - a community-based outreach programme

SWISH Youth is a community-based outreach programme that seeks to meaningfully engage youths aged 11 to 17 years old in MacPherson through basketball. Group work sessions will also be incorporated in the trainings, to inculcate character values and empower them with life skills.

The 3 main objectives of SWISH Youth are:
- To build resilience in youths
- To develop the desire in youths to give back to the community
- To develop leadership qualities in youths

In order to achieve the objectives of SWISH Youth, the youths will be provided:
- Professional training on organised 3-on-3 basketball
- An opportunity to participate in a basketball competition
- Opportunities to co-lead and plan a community outreach event
- Mentoring and guidance from the coach and volunteers
- A platform to engage in healthy social discussions with other youths

The weekly 2.5 hours programme consists of 2 hours of basketball training, followed by 30 minutes of group work session.

Group work sessions work in a 3-stage process
Stage 1: Raising awareness - Staff and volunteers engage youths in discussions on issues such as current social affairs, latest news, and inspirational figures.

Stage 2: Developing desire - Exposing youths to inspirational movies or video testimonies.

Stage 3: Opportunity to give back - Youths will be given platforms to do community work with elderly or disadvantaged children.

SWISH Youth, where resilient characters lead to stronger communities.
